I have a concrete patio in my garden which is very low. I have a lot of hardcore which i have to get rid of. Can i put the hardcore(broken up) on top of the solid concrete patio and then concrete on top of that as a base for my sandstone paving? Or should you not put hardcore on top of concrete.?Any help would be appreciated :)

You can happily put hardcore on top of solid concrete as long as you are concreting over the lot again.

The problem arises when people do it and then put sand for block paving or similar over it as the water can't get through the base concrete and it becomes a swimming pool and the paving becomes unstable.

In your case the top layer of concrete will not let any water through.

r896neo Thanks for the swift reply.Thats good news.Saves money getting rid of the hardcore and buying extra ballast :D
