We recently got new double glazed windows and now there always seems to be a small amount of condensation on the bottom of each window. We also put aluminium Venetian blinds up when the new windows were installed if that makes any difference.

Its not the biggest problem but I wondered if there was any reason for this?

Thanks.

Hi

Its a common mis-conception that double glazing stops condensation,in some cases it can actually make it worse.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

Sure did make it worse we didnt have any with the old double glazing!

Why do people think that double glazing eradicates condensation?
There are also people who think that housebricks "bounce" off double glazed units because of air pressure between the 2 panes of glass.

Its all rubbish started by the likes of Coldseal who used to use every trick in the book to try and sell their windows.

You have a problem with ventilation. Im assuming that your new windows have been fitted with trickle vents which should help but in areas of high humidity like bathrooms you also need to look at the installation of a wall or ceiling mounted extractor fan or even a dehumidifier.
You can also fit electric fans to double glazed units but this means replacing the glass completely for a glass unit which has been manufactured for this.

It may be because the new windows are a much better fit and have sealed those cracks and gaps that used to give extra ventilation (=draughts). Use your extractor fans more in the bathroom and kitchen, and make sure no-one leaves wet washing inside the house or hung over radiators.

Well done Glassman, but nobody likes to hear the truth about living today. With all the sealed up houses (soon to be tested in the new building regs) the ventilation requirements and the energy saving requirements CANNOT both be met, not to mention modern construction methods add to the problem. That should be fun.

Other ways to to avoid condensation are:

Stop bathing
Stop showering
Stop cooking
Stop breathing

and job's a good un
