Are there any kits on the market that can be used with an extractor fan to catch condensation then dispose of it into a waste pipe.

Heres the scenario, Extractor needed in a shower room but there is no practical way of venting to outside other than just leaving the ducting open in the loft.

Surely there must be something on the market for this purpose?[/b]

you are describing a dehumidifier.

You might be able to find one with a heat pump. Siemens do some tumble driers like that, but they cost over a thousand so may not be an economical buy.

What's the reason you can't vent a loft duct through a gable, or eaves, or a tile?

Even if you can vent to the outside you can still get condensate collecting in the pipe and then either running back down to the fan or collecting in any slight sags you may have in the run.

So your invention would be A Good Thing.

which is why you can already get condensation traps

It can be vented outsude but wouldnt be cost effective its a 200 year old property and the roof isnt in the best condition and to get to access to the gable end I would need a cherry picker or something similar

It would be considerably more cost effective than replacing the whole roof because of rot.

If you can't vent upwards can you take the duct down and under the floor to an outside wall.

If it's a new shower room you have Building Regulations for this work including ventilation?

The condensation may not rot the oak beams but it will certainly cause damp staining to the ceilings, mould and the subsequent health risks from mould spores in the atmosphere.

I've seen an old oak beam, about 18" square, craned out because it had rotted from damp (in this case getting through the ridge)
