"Anita Charlesworth, director of research and economics at the Health Foundation, said the drop since the Brexit vote could not be more "stark".

"Without EU nurses, it will be even harder for the NHS and other employers to find the staff they need to provide safe patient care."

"Shadow health secretary Jonathan Ashworth said: "Theresa May's weak and unstable government has pushed NHS services to the brink, and it is patients who will pay the price.

"Our health service has always relied on the contribution of overseas workers, yet these staff are being forced out by this government's neglect and disregard.

"The Tories are overseeing an unforgivable drain of talent out of our country, because of their chaotic attitude to the Brexit negotiations."

Overall there are 650,000 nurses on the register. Just over 36,000 of these have been trained in the EU, 5.5% of the total. Another 67,000 come from outside the EU with the rest from the UK."

For tax purposes, Virgin Health is domiciled outside the UK.

For tax purposes, Richard Branson is domiciled in his private Caribbean Island.
"Branson has swapped the union flag for the ensign of the British Virgin Islands, where income is not taxed."

Why the obsession with eu (and other overseas) recruits into the nhs?
If you have two cold water taps, both give similar quality of water, one runs fast with decent pressure but the water is relatively cheaper than the other. The other tap runs slowly with little pressure and the water is relatively expensive, which tap would you use?

I'd look at why the two taps were running differently; otherwise, you are storing up problems for the future.

Maybe the Tories are doing a double shuffle, not filling nursing posts and leaving everyone else to guess what is happening:
NHS nursing: Up to 40,000 posts unfilled
The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) estimates that the NHS in England has as many as 40,000 unfilled posts. It's now calling for staffing levels to be guaranteed in law.

The Conservatives say there are thousands more nurses on the wards of acute hospitals in England.

A bit like not funding infrastructure and leaving others to blame the immigrants for the shortages.
Thousands of nurses were denied permission to work in England last year, despite hospitals facing staff shortages, new figures show.

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has found that the refusals have hit high profile hospitals in Cambridge, Newcastle and Manchester.

A Freedom of Information request to the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) found more than 2,341 refusals.

Tories plan of privatising the NHS is on schedule - look at the Naylor report where trusts will be encouraged to sell land assets at ridiculous low prices. Jeremy Hunt has written a book about privatising the NHS.

It is criminal and unethical what they are doing to the NHS but it seems as an issue it doesn't resonate with people when it should.

Many Conservative voters don't care or don't believe it. Luckily there is an alternative.

Jeremy C Hunt is fulfilling his instructions to drive the NHS into the ground so his buddies can say "look what a mess it's in" and privatise all the profitable parts.

The plan is

Defund - record cuts to the NHS
Demoralise - blame staff and lower staff morale
Dismantle - breaking up and closing A&E, contracting out

When you talk about great British institutions and British values - the NHS should be on the lips of every right minded person as a shining example of what as a country we can achieve if we work together.
