Consumer unit - If i need to change a light pendant Will turning off the one switch be enough?

That does the same as turning off a single pole switch. And less than turning off a double pole one.

Hi I don’t want to create a thread due to a lot of arguments and opinions so I’m looking for a quick answer here.
If a circuit is Fused spur protected then would turning off the fused spur be okay to work on it?

Ta
If it was a DP unit then switching off and removing the fuse would be the safest way to work.

By replying here and adding to all the previous comments, isn’t there a higher chance of starting an argument? This introduces another topic and more posts that can be criticized, rather than keeping the discussion focused on the single issue of isolating the circuit?

How do you know if the FCU is protecting that circuit?

I think the best answer would be to switch off, take the fuse out and then, not forgetting the most crucial part, test with a multimeter if it’s really isolated or not.

Can’t the circuit breaker be turned off where the FCU is?

Or is the context the same as the former poster?

What extra safety would removing the fuse provide?
Who knows what is going to happen and how long will it take during the work?

Solely switching the switch off could mean that another person may operate the switch during someone working on whatever it is.

A fuse being removed while working discards that issue.

People dont generally have a fuse on them but they can switch a switch on.

I guess if your background is commercial/industrial, the your views and practices will be informed by that.

I assumed, given the name and nature of this site that TAMD8389 is a DIYer, and people don't tend to live in houses so large, and so full of random people who can't be told what's going on, that a switch would get turned on by mistake.

Although I suppose it's possible that relationships between TAMD8389 and their partner have become so bitter that the switch might be turned back on on purpose....:ROFLMAO:

Bas ? It’s for the washing machine

What extra safety would removing the fuse provide?
It substantially reduces the risk of inadvertent re-energisation, either from someone who doesn't understand why the switch is off, or from someone or something bumping into the switch.
