i have taken off a light pendant and have two main wires coming out, both with a single bare wire, both with red wires, both with black.
i have wired it how the diagrams have said on the internet, but when i turn the mains back on the switch does not work, tried changing wires around but nothing happens.

sorry what im trying to do is to put a new light pendant on, the light either stays on or nothing happens first forum ive been on novice

i have put the two red wires in the loop the bare wires in the earth and the black wires ive put one in the line the other in the neutral

You PROBABLY have a switch wire (2 lives) and a mains incoming wire.

The switch wire SHOULD be a red and a black with red sleeve on it, but the red sleeve is often missing.

Anyhow, IF you have a switch and a mains at the pendant, connect the 2 reds together (in a bit of terminal block, or a spare terminal), and the 2 blacks to the light (as Live and Neutral) Connect the earths to the earth terminal.

EDIT: you appear to have connected it right. Are there any other lights controlled by the same switch?

i have found a peice of terminal block connected the reds blacks to live and neutral earth to earth nothing happened

yes there's a blue wire with a red sleeve, and a red wire

the blue goes through the wall into the main grey

the red goes into the next switch, with a earth, another red wire and a yellow with a red sleeve all going into the main grey

sorry no there is just another switch on the other side of the wall

Not bothered about the switch wiring - this is irrelevant for now. Just need to know if this light is independant.
