Continue piers to roof height or stop at lintel? Garage extension build

Hi all,
I'm extending a garage forward. Single skin wall with piers at the front. I am upto lintel height now and wondered if I can just do a standard corner for the next 7 courses. I have a feeling I have to build the piers to roof height as the walls project 3m from existing garage.

Flat roof or pitched?
 
It's a pitched roof. I'm guessing they have to go all the way to the top as the walls are 3m away from existing house wall. Thanks
