Hi,

We are looking at doing a full loft conversion on a 1950's bunglow.. The loft conversion will need large dormas on each side..

I am wondering if it wouldn't be more cost effective to remove the roof and replace the rafters with attic trusses and dormas.. So essentially getting the whole roof designed and engineered to maximise the internal space in the loft..

Considering how much carpentry work will be needed to modify the rafters and make the dormas would it cost much more to replace the structure completely and reuse the tiles?

Thanks

Without a site view and some basic measurements, your question is difficult to answer.

In the hayday of loft conversions, some years back, whole roofs were lifted scaffed and tented, esp in the London & SE area. It was expensive but very efficient.

Bungalows are much easier to convert but a SE calcs and opinion are a must before any other expense is incurred.
