COP26 irony

What I can't understand is, why do we export beef and pork, yet import beef and pork (along with other things)?. I understand we probably get more for the stuff we sell and are prepared to get food at the lowest possible price, but we must start to realise that sorting this climate thing out is going to cost us (the taxpayer), so why not start by limiting importing stuff that we are exporting. Food will be fresher, we will be eating less, so it may have other benefits.

Because they may not be the same types of cuts or meat. They are not substitutable. Maybe if you knew something about trade that wasn't gleaned through a beer glass in a Spoony's you wouldn't have voted for Brexit. Also we may require meats at different times so there could also be a demand issue.
