I can only seem to get brass olives in my area but I have been told that for plastic pipe you need to use copper olives for compression fittings. If using metal inserts in the pipe I cant see why brass won't do, can anyone clarify?

I always prefer copper oilves, even on copper pipe. I would always use copper ones on plastic pipe, but if nothing else was available would make do with brass on copper.

Thanks for the advice guys. I need to connect my electric shower to the water supply also.I take it even though its a plastic inlet you don't need to put any kind of insert in it the same as you would with plastic pipe?

If thats part of the shower you need to see the installation instructions or ask the maker.

Inserts are required for every plastic tube when using compression or plastic fittings.

You don't need an insert on the plastic pipe that is part of the shower.

The plastic inlet pipes of showers are hard, rigid plastic that supports the pressure of the olive.

Just hand tight and nip the nut up 1/4 turn or so.

copper brass lead fluff.. all olives are good, if you use paste of course. but not on plastic pipe.
