I have noticed when buying copper tubes in the (long) past that the wall thickness varies, admittedly the thinnest ones I saw in another country. Do I need to specify the thickness of the copper pipes before ordering?

Old copper pipe had much thicker walls than new pipe, you may also have imperial pipe.
Newer pipe has thinner walls so that it is cheaper to make.
I doubt you will be able to specify wall thickness when buying, just make sure it is made to EN 1057.

Yup, old copper was much thicker, unless it was during the copper shortage in the 70's, then the walls were super thin and denoted by a red line marked down the pipe with some marked - Y.T.W. - Hate it when I come across the stuff.

As suggested, just make sure your copper is manufactured to EN1057 standard, that ensures a specific wall thickness and copper strength determined by diameter - 0.7mm for 15mm, 0.9mm for 22mm.

If it helps, here's a table I use. But I don't know why it looks like that, I copied it from XL!
