Hi im a corgi engineer, thinking of moving to america.
I specialise in gas boiler breakdown, installation and servicing, I install with copper pipe is much re-traing needed.

Would like a move to somewhere hot near beaches just a thought at the moment, would appreciate feedback on simalarities to UK appliances (combi, system, conventional boilers, water heaters and gas cookers) and if re-traing is needed.

In the uk we mainly use natural gas methane

Thanks in advance

you better do some searching first as america has different rules in different parts.
not like ossie america is a lot harder to get in to. just cause you have a trade don't make you welcome.

finding an american forum might be a start as well!

I looked into going to live in the states a few years ago. Seco is right when he says that just having a trade isn't enough. Right now, the construction industry in the US is in recession, and builders etc don't have enough work for themselves.
Other ways to get in are to buy a business over there, (you will need to spend at least £80K on one), marry a Yank, become a celebrity, get a job there (but you will have to prove that there are few other US citizens qualified or available for the job you want), win the lottery, or get a really specialised skill that is in real demand.
Good luck, it won't be easy. If you can pull it off though, it will be better to live the American dream than Brown's British nightmare of a country. Unfortunately, the Uk is sh*t from top to bottom. New labour has ballsed up the few things worth staying for. I'd go tomorrow if I could!!!

Whitespirit66 is dead right.

Looked into emigrating to the states with 'er indoors, not as easy as you'd think. There is no skills shortage there similar to Oz, if anything its the other way.

Still, I'm going to keep trying. The government has totally f****ed this country up for ordinary people. The UK is only viable if you've got lots of money or you are one of the thieveing scrounging immigrants that has arrived to take all they can get.

Good luck. The way its going, even Iraq will look like a good place to move to in a few years!

HI

i would blame the government for opening the borders like this not the immigrant who want to better themselves.
the world is laughing at us for not be able to control borders let alone
bringing DEMOCRACY to other countries

I also don't blame the immigrants. Its all a conspiracy by those in power(who have never had an honest job in their lives) to keep the costs of installing their and their cronies plush new bathrooms kitchens etc down. Thats why they are so obsessed with every kid going to university doing a BSc in dodgy degree - they have no respect for the trades. Coming from labour this is rank inverted snobbery, but they are all just as bad.

Allright m8, for starts Americans dont use wet systems, the use either Warm Air or Steam, do before anything, id be looking at your qualifications, and see if they meet the job spec of the average American Plumber / Heating Engineer

Why would anybody wanna be a yank
Sorry but I just dont like em

If I was gonna do something like this Id go Ausie ;)
