Evening all,

can anyone tell me if they have heard of a regulation which states you can not core a hole (or make an opening) within 150mm of a fabricated opening intended for the use of a window or door?

You can't near the bearing of any lintel for obvious reasons, but can further down, under or above any lintel

If this is just a normal opening and loading above then the hole can start just past where the bearing ends

Otherwise you probably want to imagine a 45 degree line from the bottom corner of the bearing for 150mm (2 course deep) and keep to the side of that

Is the core for a gas flue by chance with termination at that point?

Pete

Check the boiler manufactures instructions for termination as generally the flue must be minimum of 300mm from an opening.

Hi Fluffster,

Thanks for the post but I'm a plumber/heating installer and I am aware of flue regulations. I am trying to find out if coring a 5 inch hole close/below the bearing of a lintel will effect the intgrity of the structure.
