On the basis of the information you have provided I would recommend 35mm².

You need to give us an idea of what you will load this cable with.

Lights x ??
Sockets and use x ??
Water pumps
security lights
garage doors
entry gates
garden lighting
games room use
heating

That's why BAS suggests 35mm

As well as the loading, can you tell us how deep you will bury the cable, how you will prepare and finish the trench, how you will test the cable and what you will tell LABC will be the way you'll comply with Part P?

one lighting circuit
one power circuit 30amp
power door

l voltage garden lighting

no such thing as a regular garage no more eh?

cheers

! am constructing a 9" wall, and intend to lay the cable on top of the footing
the wall is a concrete retaining wall
It was my intention to back fill behind so it will be at a depth of 1 meter
Iwill not be making any connections at either end.

6mm might be suitable, or perhaps not.

The correct solution is to bury a cable duct in the ground with a draw rope inside, so the correct cable can be pulled through by whoever is installing it later.
That will also allow other cables to be installed easily in future, such as for telephones, alarms, computers etc.

(Rope as in heavy duty polypropelene rope capable of supporting the weight of a person. Not a flimsy bit of garden string as seen on one job.)

Thanks for your interest, will go with with BAS reccommendartions
should just about cover all requirments, keep with in the spirt of the regs!

42 metres of 35mm² SWA should just about bankrupt you

if you think 35mm is expensive you should buy a few hundred meters of 240mm or larger

at a guess i would say 6mm might be ok but possibly not, thats why you should pay someone to design it, rather than ask for it for free

i have offered advice on here in the past
Is there a pricing structure on here now?

I think he means ask an electrician to specify the design and then they can tell you what cable to use and how they want it installing. It is the spark that has to sign of the installation after all...
