felt very scammed with the power company taking advantage of the situaton - they should not be allowed to make these charges

As for the planet - that doesn't need saved, it will be here for several billion years no matter what we do to the atmosphere

do i think my solar system will reduce global warming, not really, but least I can say I am now carbon neutral, and I also feel it gives us some security in our failing country

The planet, per se, yes (unless it gets hit by an asteroid/whatever) - but far from necessarily the human race (or even, necessarily, (m)any life forms).

I have just had through the door "Important information preparing for a power cut" it seems unlike our winter of discontent now the off time will be as 3 hour slots.

How this will work I don't know, if short of electric power turning off solar power from domestic premises is hardly going to help. And if we know when the power is going off, we can charge our batteries when we have power to bridge the gap when we have a power cut.

I have made up my emergency power kit, two cig lighter holders on a 3-meter length of cable with two croc clips. I have enough batteries and 12 volt lights with cig lighter plugs, so now just need to collect all together and put where I can find them in a hurry.

So

how would turning my supply off, help? I looked at how much the AC had used

not sure if I believe that, OK all supplied by solar.

I had a little litmus paper thing to test the water and then set the salt dispenser accordingly

How about carefully remove them where your heave chair is and replace with laminate only in that section

and it is because we want to be less responsible for wiping out our wildlife (couldn't care less about humans, whatever flag) that we installed a solar system

Not that i think it will make any differance, global warming and mass extinction are on the way - as humans is not in our collective nature to think far ahead

I dont like those ones that are wrapped and the wrapping is supposed to melt - same with pods. I dont trust that the melt ill not melt every time depending on where the tablet bounces when it is released and the cause some issues in the machine after a while.

So, nothing actually warning you to expect power cuts? The helpful leaflet, will simply be delivered to every address, irrespective of whether they have a smart meter, or a dumb one. Obviously, those with a dumb meter will need to ring 105.

so how does one call 105?

I suppose that depends upon how widespread the power cut is and the extent to which the mobile network masts/equipment have battery backup?

Good question, but knowing how eric tends to like doing things, maybe his gas hob is one that can only be switched on using WiFi

ran for 5 minutes, at 2Kw, a second heating phase ran for 2minutes

FWIW mine runs for 10 minutes and then another 10 minutes, 90 minutes later.
I assume that there's some sort of thermostatic control in here, so would vary by time of year.

I do think its a mistake to transfer the landline system to digital. I bet the government bunkers are not digital phone lines.
