Had a quote from DNO today to move a tt supply 3m (the incoming concentric cable will be made shorter) and covert to PME , 6 weeks wait and cost of £1200 payable upfront. Is this normal?
Surely there is a days work maximum for one man?

1/ all work will be live so needs two men

2/ Live cables in a property can't be shortened

3/ The cable will need to be opened and cut live outside to allow the work inside which may include bringing a new cable in

The price may include for work on a highway which is expensive, 6 weeks is quite good as we often programme up to 3 months in advance

Thanks.
Does the price sound about right? I've never dealt with this before only isolators which usually get fitted for Nowt.
Why do DNO refer to isolator as something else can't remember now...

The price compares to that which I paid for a new supply.

As Westie101 said the work is effectively the same as installing a new supply due the the serious dangers of working on live cable inside a building.

If the work outside the building involves any TMA ( Traffic Management Act ) work then you have got a very good price.

The DNO tend to fit isolators so they do not have to come out to disconnect if an electrician needs to remove power when replacing or altering a CU.

It also means any "un-authorised" work on a CU is a bit safer for the DIYer doing things he or she shouldn't be doing. That is assuming they use the isolator.
