Need some adivce regarding the councill involvement in building a extension.

When the plans are sumbitted to the council a fee is paid, does that fee include building inspector visits on site?

If you are thinking of b/regs then no!

Plan checking fee is paid to err check the plans, and then the site inspection fee is invoiced when work starts

Planning permission does not involve site inspections

Is it a cost per visit, or one fee till work completion?
I'm not familiar with the whole process so would appreciate if you could help explain who plays what part, and at approx what cost.

Go to any councils website and look at the fee structure and payment terms

Normally You pay the plan checking fee which is the same amount whatever the size of the job.

Then the inspection fee which is a sliding scale depending on m2 of the new work. One payment covers all inspections

Certain works attract fees based on total value of the work

but there are also ... in dire straits. words... private investigators...

you then pay per visit..

Yes, but the OP's question relates to the council's involvement. Don't confuse the lad

Will the guy who makes the site visits be able to advise on rsj etc in cases where walls need to be removed? or is this a job for a structual engineer in which case is it extra charge?
