I've recently moved in to a rented house with other students.
The house is quite old and is really showing it!
We want to liven the place up a bit by fixing some of the damage around it.

What would be the best way to 'fix' the damage in the picture below?

note we're students so the budget is a bit tight

Its not really your problem, unless you caused it :P
It looks like some ghastly textured paint finish. How about a row or ten of tiles?
John :)

Wasn't our fault but the landlord is refusing to do anything about since we seen it before we moved in
Its a long term letting so it would be nice to get it covered up. Tiles would be a good idea, just don't know how affordable that is on a student budget! Already have new wardrobes, door handles and pretty much a new kitchen in the list already!

You maybe able to get free tiles and adhesive on freecycle or Gumtree Freebies section.Or an offcut of pvc cladding etc [ a bodge, but then you are students].
Wander around local building sites and ask for anything usefull they may be throwing in skip.
