Hi All,
Re-modelling and extending our 1960s bungalow. Had some good help on the forum regarding a few issues I'd had in the extension so hoping someone mihgt be able to shed some light on the best way to move forward.
As the title suggests we're due to create an opening in a load bearing wall, all discussed and sorted with the structural engineer. Steel going in, 1500mm opening, 150mm bearing, pad stones etc, so all good on that front.
After opening up the ceiling in prep for the builder last night, there's a slight snag.
This is the current state of the wall, (blocks supporting dormer added were added at a later date:-
Is it as simple as replicating and continuing to use bricks to support the upper joists like this:-
Or is there a better solution? I've read about sistering joists etc but is it posible to do this on short sections, for example across the top of wall, so that section of the upper joists meet the wall plate.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Cheers!
