Hi all

New here and not great at DIY :p cars and computers are more my thing :)

I need to put up a curtain pole that will be holding up a heavy curtain (as it's one of these lined thermal ones (eco)) but heres the problem, I have no where to put the rail up as I'm sure plaster board won't hold it.

The wall is from like a little out house converted from a garage, it has beams of thin wood that is enough to hold the plaster board.

was wondering if there is anything to use that will work with plaster board or another way to put up a curtain rather than a pole that will work

I will upload a picture when I get chance to do so if it helps.

Thanks in advance

Depends on the makeup of the external wall, you may be able to get long enough plugs to go through the boards and into the brick.

Or drill holes in the gyproc aligned to where you want the fixings to go, fill the void with gripfill press a rawl plug into the soft gripfill, let it set and hang pole.

Or if the wall is double sheeted you could try spring toggles.

Or remove 75mm strip of gyproc along head of window, fix 75mmx25mm strap to studs to form bearer.

Where there's a will :p

Or glue on a timber baton which will spread the load and give a firm fixing [probably the simplest method.]

Thanks for the replies.

Here's a picture I'll put forward and check all the options

can't put anything above the window but from the ideas I have got an idea of what I can do.

for my first post very helpful replies
Thank you again :)

That close to ceiling just screw baton to ceiling joists thru the plasterboard.

Turns out been doing a bit of searching (now just to let you know when it come to DIY I am a complete novice) I done the knock test to see where was hollow and around each bit of plaster board is concrete slab so concrete is pretty much the same is bricks so it shouldn't be much of an issue as I oringinally thought it would have been. Just straight in there with some nice heavy decent plug things for the screws.

Thanks all again, really have appreciated it.

Ah, I will await the next discussion on how you are struggling to drill into the concrete. :)

(Use a good quality masonry bit)
