I have had a new uPVC door fitted and it was set back from the brickwork to the position of the exesting frame.
As the existing froma was very wide there is not much of the new frame showing and I would like to trim 30mm from each side of the external brickwork.
It is an old terraced property with solid walls and the brick are very soft,
I`ve tried a small test cut and it would not be difficult with a diamond cutting blade. Cutting back would improve accessibility to the lock and allow a uPVC trim to finish off nicely.
Would I need to contact building regulations locally.

make sure the lintel above your door has enough cover 100mm/150mm
each side.........you wont need permission.

There isn`t a lintel above the door just a row of soldier bricks.
There is a timber lintel above the inner part of the wall above the door frame.

Thanks

I have had a look at the brickwork above the external door opening, and the vertical bricks are angled to key into the surrounding brickwork.
The ends of this angle are about 150 mm into the brickwork.

It sounds like a camber arch. You probably have got recessed jambs at the side of the door. Can you get a photo up?

If you cut 30mm off each side it will look a bit rough. I doubt if it will affect the arch that much however.

I thought the window company would have finished it off a bit better than that. It looks like there is a gap between the frame and brickwork, and some foam sticking out of the joint.

View media item 9502 that door instalation is unfinished.
it would look terrible chopping 30mm from either side of the brickwork.
the doors to big in the first place!
