Hi

I would like to cut a 20mm x 5mm rebate from a 900mm length of 2x2. I have all the usual hand and hand-held power tools (chisels, planer, circ saw, 1/4" plunge router) but no table saw, router table etc.

How best can I cut the rebate? I think the timber is too small to use the router fence or clamp another piece of timber and use a flush cut bit.

I'd rather not spend all day chiseling by hand then sanding etc!

Thanks in advance

not all planers will go beyond 1/2" on a rebate
"edit" 5 no 15mm will be ok :D :D
although not easy to keep level with such small bearing area[20mm]

on a table saw it a 3 min job with "guards removed for cleaning or clarity"

to use a router you can use a fence and 2-3 depth passes
or a correct bearing and 2-3 passes

Thanks for the suggestions, I went with the router and fence. I got a good tip from a YouTube video - clamp two bits of wood together to increase the bearing surface onto the base plate - made the router much more stable.

I'm not sure how I was supposed to cut a rebate with the planer though. Mine (Bosch PHO-1) has plastic mouldings on both side (motor and exhuast) so I don't think it's possible to plane a rebate with it.
