Hello,
We are looking to put a new curtain track up in a bay window.

Unfortunately the brackets are taller than the gap between the top of the window frame and the bottom of the (plaster - I believe) coving.

I was wondering whether it will be possible to cut notches out of the coving with a Stanley knife to fit the top of the bracket. We're talking about a notch maybe 20mm tall and 15mm wide.

Am I likely to come up against any major issues attempting this or is there a better way that someone can propose!

I will take some photos if that helps explain the issue.

Thanks,
Anthony

Stanley knife or nice sharp chisel should do it, might get a little bit of a rough edge but a bit of polyfilla should sort that.

Why not post a pic - there are different kinds of coving from plain modern scotia's to highly intricate Victorian types. Perhaps there's another method of fixing without cutting the coving?
