Cutting power cables

I have recently had our boiler removed, this has left a power socket on the wall with a built in timer switch which we used to use in conjunction with the boiler. I would now like to remove the power switches. I have lifted the floor boards and can see 2 power leads (thick grey cables) going up the wall to the socket, I assume this is part of a circuit; one cable running up to the socket, the other running down and carrying on.

I would like to terminate the cables beneath the floor boards, but if I just cut them and seal them off, will this break the circuit and have a knock on effect to other areas?

Many thanks in advance.

Carl.

To check, take the socket off the wall and look to see how the two cables are terminated.

If they are part of a circuit, you will need to join them together under the floorboards. However, you cannot use a junction box, as it won't be accessable. You can either solder them, or crimp.

Better still, why not just replace the timer socket (?) with a normal plug socket? Keeps it safe and easy, plus you have a extra socket in the room!

Thanks for the advice on this, I need to remove the socket all together because a shower is to be installed. I think this is a job for the professionals.

Thank you.
