Damaged wire!

Hi everyone. Is this something to worry about? Would insulation tape be sufficient or is a joint required? Thank you!

Turn power off at fuse box
Gently peel back outer gray sheath and look at damage.
if the blue and brown cable is fine and what we can see in picture is the earth wire you can tape around .
I normally leave a note and date attached but that's optional but always useful.
Sparks would replace cable or fit a junction box.
Loose cables in loft get crushed and damaged. Rarely see tidy clipped cables.

Thanks Wayners. The power is off currently anyway as having a rewire. The sparky is coming in the morning to take a look after I called him to be sure. If it is a junction box it will be annoying as its a new cable! But I guess will need to be done.

If its an ongoing rewire get it replaced.

If it's a new cable why isn't it cliped to wood or run in trunking.
Looks like that cable has been bashed a fair bit.

Mates in Thailand and just had a rewire
All the cables are in conduit and well tidy.
UK electrics for all the regulation is a mess.
Done my head in trying to walk through lofts with cables everywhere.
Whatever.
Seen many crushed under loft boards.

Yeah. Just replace cable.
Sparks don't like damaged cables. I've seen cables replaced with less damage.

It's not allowed some places . Wires strewn around the attic

New cable. Nothing in conduits. I did question this but was told it isnt needed now and not required under current regs. No conduit under floor . Run through joist. I don't think it can be replaced now as 1st fix is conplete and we have plasterer ceilings etc. Looks like it will need to be a box. I did have another look and the tear is with the blue cable. The copper wires can just about be seen but they are not damaged.

The cables under the floors dont need to be in conduit.

When I reboarded ceilings I clipped cables to joists to tidy.

Don’t accept any form of under floor junction box - cable replacement is the best and really only option

Hi Murdochcat. This will be a problem as the cable is in place with the chase plastered and routed through joists which runs through the room and then back on itself through the landing I think which is also now boarded and skimmed, then through to the consumer unit. Its not impossible but will mean ripping up quite a few sections which will be very tough. Is a junction box really that bad for this situation? Ive no experience with electrics at all.

Proper junction box will suffice.
