I'm in the process of buying a recently renovated property. All finished to a high standard throughout, but when conducting my own survey recently, I spotted some damage to the plaster in the ceiling of an airing cupboard.
Attached to this is a picture of the damaged side, and the opposite side where there's no damage but what appears to be a bit of discolouration. For scale, the width of the ceiling is about 1.5 feet.
Directly above the ceiling is a flat roof. There's no sign of recent water coming through (it's rained quite a bit recently and the interior seemed dry), but to my inexperienced eye it does look like damp has cause this. What I don't know is whether this is old damage and the previous owner has repaired the damp issue but just not bothered to replace the plaster board here as it's not an easily visible area; or if this is an ongoing problem that will cause me issues and expense when I move in.
What do you think? Damp, or not damp? New or old damage?
