dangerously hot water

can anyone help?

The hot water from the cylinder is suddenly got very very hot!!
I checked the stat on the side of the tank, it was set between 55-60 degrees.
i have changed it today for a new one and it has made no difference.

any help would be appreciated :(

No it shouldn't but because they are very rarely used normally and the thermostats are often faulty the water frequently gets extremely hot.
 
Immersion heater thermostat can be ignored if it's wired wrongly - surprisingly common.

Also if there's an electrical leak from live to earth, this will keep heating the water. With power off you should be able to detect it with an Ohm meter, as a reading usually of the order of 100,000 Ohms instead of something over 10,000,000. This is quite common too!

Lol ....and the other ends go to???, there is no common standard colour for ch wiring it is normally whatever comes to hand. Forget the cylinder stat, is the immersion switched on, lets rule that out first.
