Hello all.

I'm just wondering if any one can tell me what width door is the minimum permissible when used for a disabled toilet in a public building.

I have been reading up on this, and so far I'm coming up with conflicting information, so was after someone to clarify for me.

The door will have a straight run up to it for a wheelchair, which I beleive can make a difference.

Thankyou.

As I understand it, in a new build its 800mm clear width, in an existing building its 750mm clear width. Clear width is the clear measurment when the door is open between the stop on the latch side and the face of the door or any ironmongery protrusions fitted to it. Its fairly common practice in a new build to have a structural opening of 1010 and a door leaf width of 926 which gives a clear opening of around 850mm if the door can open slightly more than 90deg if you get me drift!

Thanks for that.

The door will be an addition to an existing building, so I could get away with 750mm then

I've had a look in my catalogue, and 838mm is the largest door they keep on the shelf, so I think that looks favorite.

Does that sound like a plan?
