Decking joist soil contact?

D

dan12345

Hi all,

I'm building a decking frame and due to the nature of the site, the (treated) joists will come into contact with the soil underneath (planning to put membrane over the top of joists). Should I be worried? It is treated after all...or should I dig it all out to leave them free and surrounded only by air?

Many thanks!

They wont last as long on the soil.

I take it you are not using the soil to support the frame?

i always stand the ends in preservative for a day or so
it wont stop rot but will help a lot

and remember to keep less than 300mm below the level off the area it covers
