Decking on flat roof - planning needed?

At the back of our house, is our bathroom, which has a flat roof. Between the outside wall, and the back lane wall, we have some decking. Now, we would like to put decking on our flat roof, to use as a sundeck, with of course, handrails etc. We want to put a staircase(only about 3 steps) from our current decking to the new decking. Do we need planning permission for the new decking, as it will mean it will overlook our neighbours garden(and we don't get on with them). There are at least 5 houses in our street which have this done, and we can guarantee that as soon we start, the neighbours will complain.

Thanks for that. Does the fact that other houses in the street have the raised decking, make it more likely that it will be ok?

you cant tell really the others may be without planning as most people do not realise decking /raised platforms/ sheds and outbuildings need planning if outside the requirements as a planning free structure

Aye you can apply but don't be too disappointed if it gets rejected which if it overlooks it most probably will. Just because something has been done before does not mean yours will get through. Its called progress!

Supposing the OP didn't bother with decking, but just sat in a deckchair on the flat roof?
Perhaps several chairs and a table?

You will need to apply for use as a "roof terrace" irrespective of whether its is decked or not. But raised decking needs permission too
