Decking pre-treatment

Hi all,

i have some decking to install in my back garden. The deck boards are pre treated but the joists/bearers are not.

Is it okay to treat this myself while i construct the frame work or will this not be as good as using the pre-treated stuff. Also whats the best product to treat it with?
 
ask for treated stuff, its no more expensive, and pressure treated stuff will be much better than anything you can do yourself
