We've got an onsuite next to our bed which has a mains electric shower in it.

Obviously it has a cold mains pipe going to it which IIRC is plastic pushfit pipe.

We put in a new washing machine last week and since then when the washing machine is on the wall next to our bed makes a noise when the washing machine uses water. It's just like a single knock each time the washer opens the water valve.

Is there anything I can do to stop it? It didn't do it with the old washer which was mains cold only as well.

The utility room and downstairs toilet are the last things on the pipe which feeds mains water round the house. The on suite is the next thing along, then the pipework feeds the tank then following back the pipework feeds the kitchen sink/dishwasher then it goes back to the stop cock.

It's just a minor irritant but I'm also slightly worried about it moving and pulling the pushfit fitting apart.

I did think that putting somekind of checkvalve in before the onsuite may solve it but I'm sure there was some rules to follow with the shower where it could only have non restrictive valves etc

You could try closing the water supply valve for the machine a bit, try a quarter shut and see if it makes a difference. They can knock at times if the water pressure is high (sudden high pressure intake)

I'll give it a go, it could actualy be when it stops taking water and the pressure is restored to the pipework.

Yes the pipe is clipped at regular intervals, I can't check the exact specs as it's plasterboarded over, it's never made a noise before - it's only since the new washing machine was put in

Thanks for the replies - looking backt the 'applicances' section probably wasn't the right place for the post the plumbing section may have been better - so apologies for that

Sounds interesting,

where would that be fitted? what kind of joint does it fit to?

Thanks

On your cold water pipe ! anywhere convenient if its possible close to where you hear the noise.
suitable fittings are listed lower down the page.
