Hi all,

I’m having problems with the blade guard on my Dewalt 707 mitre saw. As I go to make a cut, the blade guard doesn’t retract enough when you pull the trigger. Historically it worked fine, but has not been used for a few months.

When I used it previously the guard popped back enough (when the trigger was pulled) so that when you pushed the blade downwards to make a cut, the guard would meet the base of the saw and be pushed further back into the saw to allow the cut to be made.

However when using the saw now, as you pull the trigger and move the saw downward to make the cut, the guard does move but hits the base of the saw a slightly shallower angle than before. This means that rather than the guard getting pushed back into the saw, it stops the whole saw from moving further downwards.

The saw is a few years old now so out of warranty. Is this something that I might be able to fix/adjust myself, or will it need a professional to look at it? I’m guessing it’s some sort of spring-loaded mechanism.

Thanks

I have a very cheap challenge mitre saw. It had similar problems as you mention, which was down to a worn bush on the roller mechanism on the guard, stopping it from sliding back freely. Replaced it and now it works fine.

The blade still cuts 4mm to the right though

andy - I have a DW707 and will check mine tomorrow to replicate your problem; will post tomorrow with (hopefully) a fix for you.

andy - the only way I've been able to replicate your problem was by jamming the steel 'cantilever' arm on the left side of the guard. Have you checked this for alignment/fouling? Do your guard wheels (the 2 small jobbies at the front) interface with the base? Have you checked and cleaned out any debris from the main return spring at the saw pivot?
