Difference between these two tiles

Two samples of white(ish) porcelein tiles I have. One is white all the way through, the other has a noticable layer. Why?

Is it that the one on the right is porcelein over another clay? and the other is 100% porcelein? Does that mean the one on the right is cr*p ?

They are both clay, it is just one has been coloured through body, where the other one has not. Does not make it crap though!
