Differences in UK and US........

I won't lie. Pip has me on this one--speaks like a genius even if he isn't. I know what I need to know to get by and if I had paid 400 thousand for my house, I could tell you, but not the case.

However, You made some good points A. But have questions.....
1. you don't eat breakfast? ("most important meal of the day")
2. you could drive on the left here, but in 5 oclock traffic, you wouldn't get too far (ouch)-okay not a question
3. do they not advocate "designated drivers" there? they don't drink and are responsible for getting the drunken slobs back safely (not all are slobs)
4 How big is the average gas tank in your cars? If you commute back and forth, it can get a little expensive, depending how far you have to drive :?: :!:

Adam, I found this ..
RON Reaserch Octane Number.
This is the value commonly used by DG, Stemme, etc to specify an octane requirement.

MON Motor Octane Number. This value is determined in a different way. It is often considered to be more sensitve to changes in operating conditions and their effect on the engine than RON.

AKI Anti-Knock Index. This is the number that is posted on the gas pump in the USA as "Octane". It is derived as (RON + MON)/2 In other words, an average of RON and MON values.

RON is typically 8 to 10 points higher than MON. Therefor, the average is typically 4 to 5 points above MON and 4 to 5 poins lower than RON. Thus, a requirement for 95 RON gasoline should be met by 91 "octane" fuel in the US.

The up to date average price per US gal for Diesel and premium petrol in TN is quoted per US gal. as ..
$2.475 for ULP
$2.479 for Diesel
That looks like approx £0.38 for petrol and diesel per litre !!

I wonder if the property tax valuation is similar to our council tax? 25% would be an enormous hit on a property change.

The reason I asked about accuracy, was to verify the source.

1. We have a variety of breakfasts . . ranging from cereals (corn based stuff eaten from a bowl with milk) to full english breakfasts (sausage, bacon, egg, fried bread, baked beans, mushrooms, hash browns etc) and everything in between of course - toast, kippers  (not as popular these days). Though many days, I rise at 5am to be at work by 6 - I dont leave time for breakfast at this time, because anything I eat at 5am seems to have vanished from my stomach by 8!

3. This occasionally happens, but here, most of the drinking goes off in the town centres and there are 5 taxi offices that I can think of straight away in Doncaster town centre. Cheap and reliable (though many of the drivers speak little english  ). If we dont go to town, we just settle at the local pub for the evening and walk home.

4. Depends on the size of car. I can get just about £40 of diesel into my little Ford Fiesta, I have heard of people putting £60 of petrol into a Mondeo etc, though I guess this is really brimming it. (based on £0.80-0.90 pence per litre). I had a 1990 Nissan Micra, that would only take £20 of petrol! needless to say, I didn't do any long distances in it!
