Hi,

I've been called to a job where there are a number of new H/f modular flouresant fittings, are very dim. Some are at full brightness, but others are very dim. I'm just abit stumped as to what could be causing these light fitting to not be working properly. It is quite cold above them but not especially. The supply voltage is normal at 237v. I was wondering whether or not rf interference could affect the light fittings? or whether something else could effect h/f lights.

cheers

If the fittings are new and the supply is good, why not just have them exchanged for new ones? It could be something as simple as a badly manufactured batch, or perhaps they're simply cheap fittings with a high failure rate.

apparently the lights were installed 2 years ago, with this problem, and the installer thought it was a faulty fitting and so got supplier to change them. Eversince the lights sometimes work and sometimes dims. Could this still be faulty lights.

Can you try swapping one with another somewhere else that you know works?
That way you'll know if it's the fitting that's faulty or its location that's a problem.

If they are 2 years old then there's no way back with the original supplier and installer.

I'd go with replacing them for a decent quality item with tubes supplied from one of the more industry standard suppliers.
The cost of fittings is modest, less than an hours labour rate to buy. So messing about on site trying to find issues to resolve for a day would be more expensive than simply replacing them.

Have you tried relamping them?

Like others have said, aslong as the supply is good and you have tried new tubes then it'll be the electronic ballast.

They are not combined emergency fittings are they?

No, there not combined emergency fittings. I've tried relamping them, still dim. They seem of good quality, h/f tamlite. So going to try swapping with a known good fitting like you say luminare.
cheers

seems a bit odd they call you in now, some 2 years later

Got some at work with the same problem, but Tridonic ballasts.

Been rubbish from day one.

good quality,

No, but seriously, I did an office 12 months ago, and out of 80 fittings, 15 were dead straight out the box (Tamshite HF twin 6' cat 2)

Yep, it is made inhouse for CEF.

Just remembered, I had a pop pack in my kitchen made by tamshite.

One of the endcaps fell off, which nicely smashed the tube all over the kitchen floor.

I like thorn.
