I've been reading some of the postings and am missing something really obvious. What is CPC please?

CPC- Circuit Protective Conductor.

Just a technical name for the earthing conductor of say, a twin and earth cable.

Circuit Protective Conductor = Earth to the layman. But the word Earth does not describe the conductor.
