I have a dimmer light on my kids bedroom celing. Last week he hit the light with a ball and the bulb smashed.

I replaced the bulb with an energy saving normal type bulb and the light kept flickering. So I decide to check the wiring in the light and light fitting which all seemed fine.

I then find out that a normal energy saving bulb wont work in a dimmer light. I went out and bought an old fashioned type bulb. Put it in the light and light would not come on at all, took it back out and tried the energy saving one and that was flickering. I tried the old fashioned bulb again and still nothing.

What could be the problem with this? I have tried the old fashioned bulb in other lights and the bulb works fine.

Any help much appreciated. Thanks

This new lamp. How many watts is it rated at.

Many dimmers need at least a 40watt load for them to work.

Can you get access to (or buy, they're quite cheap) a simple multi-meter?
