Dimmer - lights flash off and die

Running a 2gang varilight 2x400 model.

1st circuit has 4x50w gu10s and runs fine.
2nd circuit had 8x50x gu10s and works fine most of the time.
On occasion (can be days or a week) when either pressing the button or using the remote to trun on the lights they will automatically dim, if I then try to turn the brightness up they will cut off and mot work till I reset the main power.

I have checked all the wiring and have had the dimmer replaced by the supplier, is the 8x50w=400w too close to the rated 400w for each circuit?

I notice varilight do a 2x600w switch but its twice the size, any one know the size of the modules so they can be swapped with a 400w module?


I have also removed a bulb from the 8 light circuit dropping it back to 350w but still the same?

Any one help me? Its driving me nuts

most dimmers need to be de-rated by 50% if using halogen lamps

your first one runs fine becuse its only half the max load (or you could say you have de rated it by 50%)
