Can I just check the right way of connecting one up? got a metal faced 1 way dimmer (push button on/off). The terminals on the back are P1,P2 and ~ with an arrow thru it.

Wiring circuit is black, red and earth.
does the:
black go to ~ (is this the common/COM?)
red to either P1 or P2 (doesn't matter which)
earth to the metal back box earth point (the face plate has no earth point)

cheers

metal face plates should really have an earth lug. It is ok(ish) not to have one if you are fitting it to a metal box with non-adjustable screw lugs, but what if you were using a plastic box?

This is what you get from sheds - products that look nice, made cheaply, overpriced, but not built to the spec they really should be. Homebase is particularly guilty of this, especially the overpriced bit.
