Hi there,

I am looking to fit dimmer switch to some low voltage lights

I have 3 lights (50w 12v) each with there own transformer (20-60w/va) with Primary 240V - 50/60Hz & secondary 11.4V - 5A

I tried a dimmer switch but didnt seem to work

Could someone please tell me what type of dimmer I require

Many Regards

You need to have dimmable tranformers, which I would guess yours are not. If they are what you say with a primary & secondary winding they should be however, but I think it more likely that they have been labelled misleadingly. How have you connected the dimmer you have tried?

OP doesn't mention windings, just the primary and secondary sides of (we can only assume) a switch mode transformer.

We can assume what ever we want, it does not change the response I was trying to cover both possibilities.

Fair point, although my point was that the labelling isn't really misleading - regardless of whether the transformer is switch mode, double wound or an autotransformer, it still has a primary and a secondary side. The markings are, imo, fine.

Don't you think input & output would be better for electronic type? :)

I Bought the lights and transformer in a pack from screwfix show below

12V. IP65. Pre-wired to 60VA electronic transformers and 20A junction boxes for rapid installation. Jetproof, suitable for bathrooms Zones 1, 2 and 3. Transformer featres 1KV surge protection, is dimmable with resistive and inductive dimmers and tested to Safety EN 61347, EMC EN 61547+A1.

Does it say resistive or inductive on your dimmer, if so you have the right type & must be making mistakes when you have connected it( or the dimmer is faulty)
