Dimmer switches

Guys l bought a dimmer switch last week to replace the old one , Im not sure of the name but Its written
VISION WARE
230V - 50Hz 40W Min
Incandescent 400W Max
Transformer 300W Max
part no. VDM - 400 ETE

When installed the switch the bulb wont work properly , its flickering . i cant figure the problem can you help ? Oh by the way l also changed the bulb , could it be that ? lf so which bulb am l suppose to use ?
the lamp holder is an ordinary screw-in ......

Use a standard incandescent bulb, not a CFL. At least 40watt.
