Hello

My friend has a Dimplex CXL 22N storage heater and has been told 2 of the elements are broken.

I'd like to replace the elements myself, and having read the service manual, the job looks quite straightforward.

However I don't know which 2 out of the 4 elements are broken, so how do I test them?

Is it safe to switch on the storage heater with front cover and bricks removed to see which elements heat up?

Or can you connect a battery & bulb to each element in turn to see which 2 don't make a circuit? Or maybe test their resistance with a multimeter?

Thanks

Measure the resistance with a multimeter, you'll find two give similar readings whereas the other two which have apparently failed give open circuit readings.

You'll need to take the elements out from their securing terminal block to test them.

They are wired in parallel so you need to test them individually. Not while they are still connected.
