Direct and indirect cylinders
" " " water storage tanks
" " " water service
Do all the above categories have to go together?eg. direct cylinder and water tank and water supply?

A direct tank is the same as a cylinder

holds water @ more than atmospheric pressure, a Cistern holds water@ atmospheric pressure

nige, your reply does not make sense, perhaps you would enlarge, for instance a cold water storage tank is not the same as a cylinder. Still puzzled.

Cold water storage "tank" is a cistern....A hot water tank .galvanised steel cube- is the same.ie. it holds hot water-as a copper(or galv. steel) hot water storage cylinder.why do you ask

Nige F's reply makes perfect sense. What doesn't make sense is your question. Why are you asking about things using terms that are incorrect? Do you have a plumbing related problem, or not?
