What is up with this country!
A couple I know have a son who has a very severe disability, but despite this he still manages to go to work. His mum an ex state registered nurse packed in work early to look after him and was awarded a carers allowance about 7years ago. She has now reached 60 and is therefore entitled to a state pension which she obviously payed for.
But guess what the powers that be have decided that she cannot have both the carers allowance and her pension and have decreed that she is only entitled to a pension of £11.00 per week plus the existing carers allowance which combined bring it up to her state pension.
Apparently the rules state that you cannot receive both despite the fact that her sons illness is degenerative and he requires more and more assistance.
She has not had a holiday for 5 years and has not asked for help from the social services. If her son stopped working he could claim various allowances which would cost the state a lot more, but he wants to continue to work as long as possible because as he says it gets him out of the house and he meets people.
It makes my blood boil when you see what some people get away with but the ones who are genuine and follow the rules get treated this way.
How can it be right that the state can take away somebodys meagre pension allowance to subsidise a genuine carers allowance....
