Hi everyone,

I started to do some DIY project since lockdown and just discovered this forum while looking for an answer to an issue I am currently having.

I have collected a standard black glass tv stand so that I could use the glass of this table for a DIY project (making glass doors for a small wine cave).

Now, the glass has a black coat in one side (underneath) which I can’t figure out how to remove it. It doesn’t look like an adhesive or some paint.

I have tried a fire gun, soak in soap+water, some acetone but without any success so far. Any ideas are much welcome :) !

thanks all

I would have thought if it was a tv stand then it will be toughened glass which will shatter if you try & cut it, you say "doors". So not sure trying to gaet it clear will be worth the hassle. New toughened glass should not be too expensive for a couple of small doors, ask your local glazing company.

Companies that specialise in splashbacks can cut/drill glass then temper it.
Once it is tempered, it will not cut.

Forget the old glass unless it's a perfect fit. Make a mdf template, same thickness as the company can offer, then check it fits and have it made in glass. An altenative could be as above but laminated glass.

Thank you both for your responses. I will do it another way which will be more efficient by the looks of it
