Hi

I'm laying some quartz tiles, black shiny finish with little silver specks. I was told by the guy in the shop that they need sealing. However the guy didnt seem too confident on his tiling knowledge so i'm not sure what to do here. They already have a shiney finish, and i'm worried sealing them may actually give it a dull look as i have seen others end up doing.

depends on what they actually are. some described as quartz are actually man made. Most do need sealing - something like lithofin mn stainstop.

You can try a water test - simply pop a few spots of water on the face, leave for 10 or 15 mins and then check if much has been absorbed. wipe off and check to see if tile has taken in any of the water (look for damp spot that wont rub off until it dries out.) if you get any absorbed water, then yes they need sealing.

I cant see how any impregnating sealer would dullen the finish as once applied the excess is wiped off, so if in doubt seal them
