Yep, I will admit, I have done this at least on 2 occassions, really old alarm systems with bells that cannot be reached without a picker due to extensions etc.
if bell goes faulty, have touched bell cable onto 240v fused supply, will blow bell electronics up and the fuse.
 
Hi guys, ther is another thread earlier in the postings on this very subject, and yes it does happen.
 
Why not just cut the wire to the sounder, and wait for the battery to go dead? In fact why didnt he just fix the fault? If the fault was in the sounder itself then remove power and wait....

Any engineer wiring mains into a bell box that is rated at 12v should not be in the trade, they should be in jail....

If this is real, why dont you name the company responsible and post up photos?
