how can you paint over a wall that has old paint in patches left behind after stripping wall paper off.

how big are the patches? what are you painting over it with?

the patches are like the map of the world ,all over, painting over with emulsion.is there a paint or liquid that we can put on, before we paint' that will even up the walls .or do we need to strip all paint off.

polycell do a filler in a tub called something like smoothover. its about 15 quid for a tub and the large spatula you need to go with it (which doesnt fit in the pot!) is about 7 quid. You just spread it over the walls with the spatula and it evens out any problems. leave it to dry and then give it a very light sanding. Ive used on many jobs and it gives very good results.

Does this also apply to a painted wall where some paint has peeled off (where the dado strip was pulled off), to leave a VERY shallow hole? Sounds like what I need.....
