I went into B&Q the other day and saw 3 types of 2.5mm twin and earth same length and standard but different prices and manufactures

Is their a preferred cable manufacture or is it just a con?

Doncaster cables IMO are good.

Never used them but I live in Docnaster so I have to say that

I've never had a problem with Prysmian cable. I've used cheap stuff before and the insulation of the inner conductors was stuck to the grey sheath

They where both approved and the same just the manufacture was different! So was questioning why some one would pay an extra £10 for the same 100m of 2.5 just because its Prysmian

I do like pirelli cable but in these crazy copper price days we live it's hard to justify now. I generally use the doncaster cable or CCC, what ever is available really.

As long as it is BASEC then it is fit for purpose.

I like Doncaster Cable (but not Donny) Prysimian is also good but there flimsey boxes fall apart.

Cheap stuff although basec stamped may be more difficult to strip and work with although I have never come across this from a wholesaler (only hardware store).

Pirelli cables are Prysimian.

I only get prysmian cable from screwfix - I think its easier to work with and the outer insulation has some sort of very light wax finish on it which lubricates the outer material which should give it more life.

that explains the same stupid box

they may be to the same standard, but that's a minimum standard remember..
same as anything.. cola for example.. why would anyone pay £1.49 for a 2L bottle of coke when you can get Aldi's for 39p a bottle?..

Totally agree. I prefer to exceed the requirements if possible rather than meet the standard.
